Research Music Video Conventions and Codes
For my music video I chose to use the song “Gettin my Mom On” by Jack Stauber. Here are some common conventions of Jack Stauber’s music videos and pop music in general.
- Jack Stauber often uses animation in his music videos, but not fully. In his music video: “Gettin My Mom On” Jack Stauber used green screens to create an animated background, while he himself remained unanimated.
- Jack Stauber has also been known for using stop-motion in his music videos. He has a very particular style in which he purposely makes his music video’s look homemade. So, he tends to use clay and clay figures mixed with animation in his videos.
- This directly goes into the point that Jack Stauber purposely makes his videos seem homemade. When watching his video’s, you would think that they came off of a vhs tape.
- Most of the time in the pop. Music genre, the actual music in the video doesn’t start right away. It usually begins with a small pause or introduction to the the story of the video. It’s most likely a little to overwhelming if the music begins as soon as the video begins.
- When searching for music videos on YouTube, you often see the actual music company or brand that belongs to the music video. “VEVO” tends to be the most popular and recognizable brand.
- At the beginning of some pop songs, there is writing at the bottom of he screen that gives context on the music. This writing often shows the name of the song, the artist or artists that made the song, and the company the music video is being distributed by.
- For most pop songs, the actual title of the song and the music video is a lyric in the song itself.
