Editing Blog

Image
As the editing process began, the first things I did was upload my shots together into one project into iMovie and arrange them into chronological order. Once that was finished, I then created the transitions between my shots. Transitions such as slide and dissolve were  used. I then recorded some Star Wars themed music, and uploaded that as background music for my commercial. I then recorded audio of my own voice to include into my commercial. I chose to record my audio at this point because I figured it would be easier to sync my audio to my already edited footage because I would know how long my commercial would be ahead of time. This way I would know how fast or slow to speak. That was the basic idea of how I edited together my commercial. I would, however, like to talk about specific occasions were editing was able to greatly improve the project. If you read my filing blog, you know that I originally planned to have a Darth Vader prop in my commercial that had moving arm...

Filming Blog

Image
On Thursday, October 29 I began filming my commercial. There was actually quite a few things I realized I had to change about my commercial once I actually began filming. I had originally planned to print out multiple star-wars themed images onto computer paper so I can use that as a backdrop. With perfect timing however, my printer ran out of ink, and I didn’t want a black and white background. I then began searching for colored construction paper to create a different backdrop, but since the colors of the construction paper was so bright, any folds, imperfections, or dust on the paper would be very visible on film. I then just so happened to find 6 black canvas’s that reminded me of some of the backdrops that are supposed to represent the darkness of space in Star Wars. Not to mention they looked really good on film. With that out of the way, I was planning on using my brothers Darth Vader action figure as a prop that can interact with the baby yoda toy. My mom then informed me ...

First scene: During the first scene there will be the classic “A long time ago... In a galaxy far, far away...” Star Wars opening. I think that this will engage the audience because its such an iconic panel, that the the viewer will immediately have an understanding as to what my product relates to. Second scene: The first scene will then transition to the second scene through a scene. The second scene then shows the baby yoda toy that I am promoting. As I present the baby yoda toy I will include the audio: “A long time ago... In a galaxy far, far away... Comes the baby yoda figure from Hasbro!  Third scene: In this scene I will include a scene of the mandalorian looking back at baby yoda. This will be an actual scene from the show. This scenes purpose is to give some context on the mandalorian tv show, while also showing what the show looks like. I will probably include audio such as: “Be the mandalorian with you’re trusty partner...Baby yoda!” Fourth Scene: This will be a ...

Props: Seeing as I am advertising a baby yoda figure, one of the props will of course be baby yoda. Other props will be other Star Wars products such as a Darth Vader figure and some lego Star Wars minifigures. Costumes: I will be the only actor for this project, and I will most likely be wearing a Star Wars-themed shirt. This would fit in line with the overall branding of the product. Perhaps I will try and find some sort of fabric that resembles a Jedi cloak. To add on, I will most likely print out a star-wars themed background to create a setting that fits within this brand.  Schedule: On 10/24/20 I will be gathering my items and props. This will be on a Saturday, so I will have plenty of time to do this. Seeing as I’m working on my own, it should be very easy for me to begin creating my storyboard the same day. I should have enough free time that day filming and taking multiple takes. If I don’t have the time to begin filming my commercial on Saturday, I will start filmin...

Research Commercial Conventions and Codes    My commercial will be featuring a baby yoda figure from the tv show: The mandalorian from Disney plus. In most toy commercials the audience sees kids interact an play with the toys various features.   Often times there is a setting that fits the product. For example if your product has to do with Star Wars, then there will most likely be a set that contains planets and spaceships surrounding that product. Often times there are also kids within these sets, who are playing with the product. This makes the toy more appealing and relatable to kids. Theses commercials often tend to reference the brand they are promoting using these kid actors. One of the kids could be dressed as the mandalorian for example.  These commercials also state what is  and its included in the actual product. With all the items on the set piece, it can get confusing as to what is a actually being sold. Perhaps the objects that are not includ...
