Production Blog: Beginning the filming process

 To begin the filming process, I have chosen to film my scenes in the order of there appearance on screen. For me personally, thud I helped me keep track of what scenes I have yet to film. I separated this process between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I had no school on Friday, meaning I had a three day weekend to film. On Friday night, I started filming my first few scenes. I chose to film at night because my film starts the night before the main protagonist birthday. We follow the story through the main characters point of view, as he gets ready for the next day. To follow this story I used my iPhone 11 to film. Its pretty easy to use, as it basically acts as a hand-held camera. As I filmed I used my room as the main setting to start with, and different props such as a suit, watch, and diary. I also used high angle shots and low angle shots, as well as shots that used a birds-eye view. On Saturday I filmed shots that would take place the morning of the main characters birthday. The only other setting that was used on this day was the hallway outside my apartment. On Sunday, I mainly used the days for reshoots. I would reshoot scenes that I wasn’t happy with in the morning, and reshoot scenes in the evening as well.  This was the main reason why I wanted to film on the weekends. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to film scenes in the morning because I would be in school. During filming, I found that there wasn’t many compromise that had to be made. Everything that Ive filmed so far has been pretty similar to my storyboards. There was just a few minor changes I had to make. For example in my storyboard I have an older-style alarm click, but in my film I’m using an iPhone alarm-clock instead. So far, all of my scenes are going to plan, with some retakes, tweets and changes fro individual scenes.

 Below is my final task, the opening to my film “Dimensions”. This has been a lot of fun to work with, from the very beginning stages of writing the script, all the way to the editing. I feel that doing this project has given me a good understanding of what it’s like to make a film in the film industry. In total, I feel that I now understand the basic understanding of what it’s like to make a film. In other words, I have learned a lot of skills while making my film, and plan to use these skills on future projects.

Production blog: Costumes

  When gathering the costumes that I was preparing fro my film I ran into a few issues that I hadn’t originally taken into account. I originally planned to have the following: a casual look with pants and short-sleeve, a fancy suit, and pajamas. Seeing as I’m working alone on the project, I will be the only one wearing these costumes. My story is supposed to begin with my character preparing for his birthday the night before. At this point, he is wearing his casual clothes, and he is preparing his suit to wear in the morning. I was originally thing of having the character then be in pajamas since this is at night, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable in pajamas while on camera so I decided not to do this. I also realized that parts of the story wouldn’t add up, because I wanted my character to already be in his suit the next morning. Filming Blog

 Before beginning the filming process, I made sure to gather my material and props together. The costumes that I planned to wear didn’t have to change once I began filming, since all my scenes would be filmed indoors. This also meant that none of my locations had to change either. As I stated before, I already planed on filming indoors, so I didn’t have to improvise much on set. I did however, change some parts that were from my storyboard. For example, I added a scene of my story’s protagonist staring at a colander with a specific date on it. Later on in the film, when the character enters another dimension, he finds that Sam Clarence rebut now it says a different date, even though it was the same day. This is meant to be a visual clue for the audience. Other than that, I didn’t end up changing much. I would go on to film my scenes in an order based on locations.
