Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
For my first seven the camera is gong to pan down to a magazine in my hands without showing my face. On the magazines cover will be the name of the song and who it’s by. The music doesn’t start yet. Once the music begins in the next scene I put down the magazine and the camera shows my face. After that there will be a short scene of me rapping a handbag around my shoulder. this is followed by  another short scene of me choosing which sunglasses to wear. The scene following that will be a shot of me waving my arm as if I’m saying “Come on!”. That ties directly into the next scene that I am waving to two younger kids. This scene will be animated. I’m hoping that once its animated I can use a creative and illustrative style. In the next scene I’ve going to be looking down at something. It will be basically as though I’m reading something. The next scene will be a direct continuation of this as I’m reading a “Keep calm carry on” poster. This is an actual lyric in the song so I figured ...

Planning for my Music Video

Song Title: “Gettin’ My Mom On” by Jack Stauber Props Seeing as the song is about “Gettin’ my mom on” I’ll be using a handbag, some magazines, some old clothes, and woman’s sunglasses. The music video is supposed to be funny and kind of retro, so I’m hoping that using these props will create that same feeling. All the props that I am choosing for my music video are supposed to be kind of off putting. Woman’s sunglasses for example are not necessarily something that I would normally were, but it fits with the story of the video and its weird enough to grab the audience attention. Costumes As far as costumes are concerned, I really don’t have anything crazy planned. I suppose the woman’s sunglasses would be considered as a costume, but I don’t want to where anything that is too distracting. I also simply don’t have anything that distracting. In the original music video for this song, the artist purposely didn’t were costumes that didn’t seem crazy or out of the blue. This is because he w...

Research Music Video Conventions and Codes For my music video I chose to use the song “Gettin my Mom On” by Jack Stauber. Here are some common conventions of Jack Stauber’s music videos and pop music in general. Jack Stauber often uses animation in his music videos, but not fully. In his music video: “Gettin My Mom On” Jack Stauber used green screens to create an animated background, while he himself remained unanimated. Jack Stauber has also been known for using stop-motion in his music videos. He has a very particular style in which he purposely makes his music video’s look homemade. So, he tends to use clay and clay figures mixed with animation in his videos. This directly goes into the point that Jack Stauber purposely makes his videos seem homemade. When watching his video’s, you would think that they came off of a vhs tape. Most of the time in the pop. Music genre, the actual music in the video doesn’t start right away. It usually begins with a small pause or introduction to the ...

Introduction of the Music Video Project

Image
For this project I chose to work alone because due to the COVID-19 pandemic, its a bit difficult to meet up with other group members, especially in public locations. If I were to work with a partner on this project, it would have to be mostly over calls or texts. This wouldn’t really work for a music video. By working alone I also have the ability to have more control over my project. I can easily decide which song to choose, how my storyboard should look, and more. Working with a partner may mean that I would have to change some of the elements of my music video. Especially if I’m working with a group of four people, with each person having a different vision of what the music video should be. So for my project I have chosen to use the song “Gettin’ my Mom On” by Jack Stauber because first of all, I’ve always loved Jack Stauber’s music, and second of all, I think that using this song can allow me to use animation in my music video in a unique way. I think Jack Stauber’s music has...

Creative Critical Reflection

Name: Daniel Markov______________   Creative Critical Reflection 1.       How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  I feel that my commercial doesn’t necessarily challenge the typical conventions used in toy commercials, but it definitely uses those conventions. For example, I used multiple product sin my commercial. Often times, toy commercials contain a main product, and some separate products. this is meant to tease the audience about separate toys or accessories that may connect to the main product that you are selling. In my commercial, I used the baby yoda toy as my main product, while the Darth Vader toy was my secondary product. I even said at the end of my commercial that “Darth Vader is sold separately. Toy commercials often say at the end of  the commercial what is and isn’t sold separately. As an addditional convention, I deliberately chose to show my hands in the comm...

My Commercial

Overall, I had a lot of fun doing this project although I do feel the quality of my work could be improved. I think that this leads back heavily to production design. Before I began gathering materials and before I began the filming process, there was a lot of items, props, and set pieces that I assumed I just had. I only began gathering my materials once it actually came to beginning the filming process. Next time, I’ll make sure to be certain that I have the props and materials that I need during the planning process. By doing this activity, I learned how to overlap my audio while editing. This is something that I haven’t done before, but I found it very useful during this project. It was especially useful because I wanted to have background music overlapping with audio of my voice in the finished commercial. I also learned how to use the app auto desk sketchbook so that i can learn how to edit photos. Since you cant edit that many effects onto different scenes though the iMovie...
