Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
I chose to look at this is this site because it provides a wide arrange of tittles from man different movie. Because of this, its easy to find to separate title sequences that are completely different form one another. I’m sure that this is very helpful for people trying to find inspiration for there own titles. On this site I found many different title an movie openings. This wasn’t just from Hollywood films however. This site provide title made by directors, students, Americans, Europeans, and more. It basically provides film titles from all walks of life. Through researching the site, I’ve been able to see how long a title sequence can be, and how to make it fit the tone of your film. Ive learned how the setting of your film can also effect the title sequence. If you set your film in the 80s, you may want to use a retro title. If your making a futuristic film, you would want to create a simplistic title.

Title Research: Art of the title Website

Image
I chose to research this site because it gives a good understanding of how typography can be used to open a film in a creative way. For example the site shows how some films us use montages and playful color pallets in the opening sequence to fit the films subject matter. Other films may do the complete opposite and use dreary colors to match there tone. I saw how ever film on the site showed a completely unique title screen. Every time these title screens feel new and fresh, they seem to also fit the films overall style. Ive learned how complimentary colors specifically can work well in title sequences. This is because complimentary colors are on exact opposites of the color wheel. There are instances were supplementary colors are used. Ive learned that if you would want to make a warmer tone, you would specifically use warm tones. If you wanted to create a cooler tone, you would use cooler tones in your title sequence.

Genre Research: Interstellar

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  Similar to the film Inception, Interstellar plays with the idea of travel between worlds. The type of travel the film portrays subjects such as travel between pace, time, and dimensions, which are all ideas that I have based my story on, specifically travel between dimensions. I think that Interstellar portrays these ideas particularly well because it presents these far fetched ideas through a realistic point of view. As a result the audience views the story in a more realistic point of view. It allows the audience to insert themselves into the story, and think about what they would do if they were in the same situation as the characters. I hope to present these ideas in a similar way as I show my ideas through a lens that feel a bit more real, while still holding on t o those classic science fiction elements. This feels like the basis of how science fiction is presented within Interstellar....

Genre Research: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  In my story I plan on having my protagonist find an artifact with magical properties that can help them travel between dimensions, which I feel is one of the more obscure elements of my film. I feel that the idea of an ancient magical artifact is used very often in science fiction. This is especially seen in Star Wars, particularly the more recent films. However, when looking at The Empire Strikes Back I based my film off the dialogue specifically. I feel that science fiction films often use dialogue manly as a plot-device, and as a result this makes the characters giving the dialogue feel disingenuous. However, I feel that The Empire Strikes Back doesn’t have this problem. With every line each character says, the characters feel real. They feel like relatable people. This allows the audience to relate more closely to the film as a result. What elements of the genre did the movie have ...

Genre Research: Inception

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  The film Inception has a similar idea to my film because I’m using the idea of traveling between dimensions in a very similar way to how Inception uses the idea of traveling between dreams. In Inception our main protagonists have to go on a mission in which they travel through different dreams, with the risk of remaining within the dream with no escape. My film traits alternate dimensions in a similar way to dreams, as our protagonist gets trapped in different dimensions and struggles to find his way back to his home dimension. I found the idea of traveling between traveling between dimensions, time, and space interesting and complex, so I figured I would implement a similar idea into my story. I feel that films such as Inception visualize this idea very well.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that you liked?   I liked the visual effects use in the film as w...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
For my opening sequence I have chosen science fiction as my genre. I came to this decision mainly because the pitch that I used for my film already uses multi-dimensional travel as its main plot-device, and I feel that this type of subject can be considered science fiction. I was also thinking about using horror as my main genre, but I’m not sure that horror would necessarily match with such a complicated subject. I was also thinking of having action as my genre, especially if I wanted to use action to captivate the audience in my films opening. However, I still feel that the idea of multi-dimensional travel is still to complicated for an action film. I will probably still include some action in my film, but it won’t be the main genre. I also saw that films that use subjects such as the multi-verse and time travel are already put under the category of science fiction. I also chose to use science fiction because I plan on putting science fiction elements in the  opening of my ...

Genre research: Science fiction & horror

Science Fiction Common CAMS in the genre Science fiction usually has establishing shots to show a shot in space or on another planet. It’s basically used to establish a fictional setting. This then transition ps into master shots as we see where the characters are within the scene/setting. Common ClAMPS in the genre  Often times costumes in science fiction can seem otherworldly or futuristic, while also having props that Macy has the same aesthetic. Meaning the props can match the futuristic aesthetics of the clothing, and the futuristic clothing can also match with the aesthetic of the setting.   Common Editing in your genre Slow-motion can be pretty common in science fiction, as many big-budget science films can use slow motion in action scenes. Often times there are also fast-paced cuts to keep up with the exiting nature of science fiction. Example films of your genre  Examples such as The Matrix, Star Wars, The Avengers and the Terminator  franchise can be consid...

Genre Research: Action

For this PowerPoint I worked with another student from AICE Media Studies to create a PowerPoint that illustrates he basic elements of the action genre. Before being this project however I had to do my research to understand the genre. This lead to a lot browsing crooks the internet in order to get a good grasp of the  action genre. I also watched a lot of action scenes that I can see action on film, well, in action. This way I would get a basic understanding of how the scenes from this genre are made, and what the finished product should look like. Me and my partner would then make a basic draft of the elements we would include in our point point, and agreed that one of us would do one half of the PowerPoint, and the other person would do the other half. I the laid out the basic teems and images across the PowerPoint. By doing this I would get the basic layout of ho the PowerPoint would appear. I had to chose very specific images ahead of time, as I wanted the images ...

My intro blog

Image
Hi my name is Daniel Markov, I’m in 11th grade, and.I’ve always had an interest in film. As a kid, I had always loved superhero’s, and as a result, I loved superhero movies. Marvel and DC films always caught my eye. As I got older, I began taking interest in smaller movies that weren’t necessarily as popular as a typical superhero movie.  From this point forwards, my knowledge on different films expanded further and further, and I hope to further expand my knowledge through this class. It was especially thanks to my dad that I got into movies. He is the only person in my family that really has a wide understanding of movies. Movies from Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino are ones that me and my dad especially enjoy. I still feel however, that I don’t have a good enough understanding of how films are actually made. I can watch a film and understand the basic story structure, and I can be aware of good acting when I see it, but I don’t really get everything that must happen behi...

My Pitch Blog

Image
If I’m of creating a film, I’m thinking of having our story be told from the eyes of our antagonist, as he travels through different dimensions similar to his own. I want him to find some strange crystal in his drawer one day, and when he touches it he finds himself in another dimension. In this new dimension similar to his own, he finds a different version of his house to find another crystal in his drawer as he goes on a ahead and touches that crystal and so on and so forth. Our antagonist will travel through different dimensions, each one slightly different. He continues to travel to each dimension until he finds the one that doesn’t have a crystal in his drawer. Once he finds that dimension, he knows that he has made his way back home. The problem is that with each dimension he travel too the more and more he forgets about his home reality. I want my antagonist to fight an alternate version of himself in a dimension that he thinks is his own. When the story ends, our antagoni...
